Good Sleep – A Key Foundation

Good Sleep – A Key Foundation

Continuing on my last post’s theme of hormone disruptors and building on the key health foundation of good sleep; I would like to share with you my journey to find a new mattress.

As we spend approximately 1/3 of our day resting and rejuvenating, it warrants spending some time researching what contributes to a good night’s sleep.  I have been experiencing an increased amount of arm numbness and neck tension upon awaking so it has got my attention big time. Starting the day feeling rested and ready to go is the only way in my opinion.

In my previous post I referred to rest as one of the 4 foundational components to being able to live your life at peak performance.

I began with my physical body and visited my chiropractor and osteopath as well as specific stretches in yoga. Then I looked at what I was holding onto emotionally and brought ease to this area.

Next was looking at our mattress which is a 10 year old pillow top.  I can visually see the sag in the middle of each side and as you cannot flip a pillow top over; its life quality has run out.  I have been on the hunt for a new mattress now for the last month…not an easy task when you want to make an educated and healthy choice.

After initial discussion, my top criteria became:

  • Natural components with low off-gassing. (no chemical fire retardants and hormone disruptors)
  • A mattress suited to both my husband who is 6’6” and a side sleeper along with me at 5’5” and a back sleeper.
  • A mattress that allows for a decent trial period with full money back guarantee.
  • Value for money – good warranty, reasonable price
  • Positive testimonials from happy customers for both the company and product.

Though I have not purchased one yet, we are much closer in understanding the market and have narrowed down our choices.

Here are the main companies I have researched in no specific order:

They range in price from $750.00 – $4000.00 and all will provide a decent trial period and warranty. All of these beds are either natural latex, memory foam or a hybrid and include wool and organic cotton for covers.

I would really appreciate hearing from any of my readers on their experience with natural mattresses.  I’ll let you know what we decide.

It’s great to share and learn from each other. I would love to hear from you. You can connect with me by email or telephone, or click the contact tab at the bottom of the screen if you are reading this post on the website. Don’t forget to join in the conversation on Facebook too!
