January 11th of this year marked my 15 year anniversary as a Reiki Master. When I received the congratulations note from my initiating masters, I had to pause and reflect on the profound impact that reiki has had in my life. Time moves along as it does however there are moments that somehow have us take a breathe and go – wow, it’s been that long! I can say this was definitely one of those unplanned moments.

Who knew that my introduction to reiki in 1985 would have changed the course of my life’s work? Though it definitely shifted my perspective and became something I was deeply drawn to continue for my personal awakening and healing, I did not have any thoughts that it would become the core of what I offered to do in the world. However, over the next 5 years, I was being guided by inner nudges, and I left my corporate career to establish Inside Out in 2000. Over the next 10 years, I built my public practice and connected in with my community through the local Chamber of Commerce and other networking groups. Of course, there were times I questioned my decision to be an entrepreneur and wear all the hats, but it only took a deep meaningful client session for me to once again remember my why.

Reiki is profoundly simple, yet to experience it leaves no doubt that something is shifting in our whole being. Some experience a sense of relaxation that is difficult to find on their own in such a short time. For others, there may be a specific issue they are focusing on healing or they may receive their own answers to questions in this supported space. We get what we need and it’s rarely the same experience twice. Over time we establish a deeper connection to the communication from our own inner guidance and body wisdom.

My call to mastery felt similar to the call to my second degree class. The thought entered my mind and kept persisting, with messages in my outer world continuously showing up to nudge me. I had come to a place of taking these intuitive hits more seriously and doing my part to explore what would be involved in the next steps. The pieces fell into place and I begam my mastery journey in 2010. It was a spectacular year with many life experiences showing up to support my growth and commitment to this practice.

One of the biggest lessons of that year was shifting my response to challenges from fear and “oh no, how am I going to handle this?” to “ok, how can I be clear on what I need and trust that I will be guided step by step?” It did not mean I took the high road every time however I had enough significant outcomes that showed me what was possible if I could hold that inner calm and clarity. Receiving my Master Initiation on Jan. 11, 2011 felt incredible. I had built a trusting relationship with my practice and myself that was the foundation for all the lessons to come. I was immediately approached to see when my first classes would be, so once again circumstances unfolded for me to jump right into this new level of commitment.

Over the years, I have continued to teach hundreds of students and had the honour of journeying with 5 of them through their mastery program. By joining The Reiki Alliance, I have attended international conferences and met and practiced with reiki masters from around the globe.

In November of 2017 I traveled to Japan with a small group of Reiki Masters led by Phyllis Lei Furumoto and Joyce Winnough and walked the sacred Mount Kurama among many other incredible temples and ceremonial traditions. All of these experiences have brought me greater awareness of how reiki can be present in our lives and become a spiritual practice that can bring us closer to our true self. We hear constantly that all we need is inside us and there are many paths we can follow to tap into this inner source. I am forever grateful that Reiki found me and brought with it a solid foundation to find more wholeness.

“I have been on my personal journey with Reiki for 4 years now, and I can only describe how I felt during my initial experience as “ethereal”. So….Reiki has transformed my life. I know, how cliché. But it’s the truth. If Karen hadn’t introduced me to Reiki, there would be a whole lot of experiences I would have missed out on.

With practicing Reiki, getting certified in level 1 and 2 and focussing on the daily principles, I have found myself working with energy healing in my own business, working on becoming more healthy both physically and energetically, I have started travelling the world solo to energy healing retreats, working on other energetic healing modalities, meeting like-minded souls, some of whom have become like family and really realizing that we are all energetic souls and Reiki benefits everyone.

Reiki has really opened up a lot of doors for me in terms of business, friendships, life experiences, travel, letting go of years of trauma and pain, and showing up for myself and others.

Reiki has also helped my family. I have been able to assist my kids and husband with energetic and physical ailments both in person and while away. It really is a modality of energetic healing that everyone should harness.

The best part of Reiki is you don’t need any fancy outside tools to be able to do it. Just yourself and The Divine.

Karen, I want to thank you so much for helping to open this door for me. Without you and Reiki, I feel like I’d still be going in circles. Or at least far more behind in my journey.
