F.E.A.R. – False Evidence Appearing Real

F.E.A.R. – False Evidence Appearing Real

I just facilitated a workshop on the topic of FEAR – something that we all deal with in varying degrees for most of our lives. We are born with only two instinctual fears, that of falling and loud noises. All others are learned. This does not mean they are not real, just that they are learned from life experience. This is a huge topic and I intend to just touch on a few valuable tips to keep fear in check. Fear can be paralyzing. If given the power, fear will prevent us from doing and having things in our lives that we say we want.

Fear is not a bad thing; it keeps us aware of potential negative or dangerous situations. However, because they are learned, they become registered in our minds as thoughts. Thoughts are energy AND “Where thoughts go – Energy follows! Our bodies do not know the difference between thoughts that are from real and present danger or if they are assumed. This is where the acronym, False Evidence Appearing Real comes from. Most of our fears are learned and originate then from our thoughts. Our negative emotions are triggered and our bodies respond.

Definition:
noun: fear; plural noun: fears
1. 1. an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.
verb: fear; 3rd person present: fears; past tense: feared; past participle: feared; gerund or present participle: fearing
1. 1. be afraid of (someone or something) as likely to be dangerous, painful, or threatening.

Here are some tips for the mind, heart and body.

Mind:

1.  Feed your mind with more positive information. There is phenomenal information available on the web free! Enter the topic into You Tube or Ted Talk searches and select from the wonderful pieces that are shared there. A few of my favourites can be found below:

2.  Choose who you spend the most time with. As Jim Rohn famously quoted: “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.”

3.  Gratitude – Time and time again research has proven that we raise our vibration by focusing on the things we are grateful for in live. Once again, Where thoughts go – Energy Follows!  Start a gratitude journal, create positive affirmations. Start changing your repetitive thoughts.

Heart or Emotions:

1.  Don’t resist them because what we resist persists. It’s like trying to hold an air filled beach ball under the water. It takes a lot of energy and it keeps popping to the surface when we get triggered. Find a confidante, professional or person that you can share with. Try journaling to express your emotions. Again, reading, watching or listening to some of the experts on the topic can also help.

Body:

1.  Breathe! Yes, breathing when we are anxious, uptight or in stress mode tends to be very shallow. The body stays in fight or flight mode with shallow breathing. Practise deep breathing, even if you stop 3-5 times per day and take 3 deep breaths. This will change the message you give your body and release some tension.

2.  Exercise – whatever your choice of exercise, this also gets the energy flowing and gives it release.

3.  Nature – being in nature has a rhythm that the body is in sync with. Check out the practice of ‘Earthing’.

Change happens when we make change! “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit“. Aristotle.

The most powerful results come from “Small steps practiced consistently.” Ask yourself this question: What’s one thing that, if you did consistently, would make the greatest positive difference in your life? We have a lifetime to live and we don’t ever really get it done! Whatever ‘done’ means to you. So live each day, the best you can and start again tomorrow. I love the saying that “when it comes to getting through each day…as long as you are still here, you are averaging 100%! Well done“! Let’s change the acronym to the image above! Please share your strategies with my readers. We can all help each other.
