In these three words, I would also hear, “God takes care”, as it is not the reiki practitioner who does the healing. We provide the channel for the universal life force to come through and provide whatever healing is required for the person’s highest interest. These wise words of guidance take the responsibility for healing away from the practitioner. In fact, my focus is to get out of the way and not let my ego take a lead role in the session. So – my own inner belief is that I am supported by God to bring love through me to provide healing which can often be called energy healing. As a person experiences this energy healing, they in turn often connect to their inner guidance that always knows what is true. As such it can be difficult to describe as each person experiences the healing in a different way pending their current physical condition, their belief systems and their ability to tune into the messages of their body.

It didn’t work when I had to answer for myself, to know what my opinion was and risk that it was different from everyone else. It began to get confusing as an adult when my opinions were challenged. How could I discover and speak my truth and still keep the peace? I felt lost and empty. Of course that was the beginning of my awakening journey. I learned that my attempt to keep everyone else happy, was not really working for my highest good. I was paying a price for it. I also learned that going along with others when I didn’t necessarily agree 100% was also not serving them in their highest interest.

It is also my new beginning to create new in my life. Clarity for this only comes after I process my emotions so I have learned how important it is to book time with my reiki master. I get to honour where I am and make peace with that. Only then will there be space to create the new. Once I am balanced – the clarity comes easily and effortlessly.

What I have noticed in my practice is that once my male clients realize the benefit of making regular appointments, they commit fully. The next session is booked before leaving the office and they do not have to put it on the “to do” list. My female clients on the other hand tend to call when they are in crisis! I just “have to see you” is the call I will get. The build up of stress in their lives is causing more challenge than they can ignore and it’s time to come back into balance. We get to choose how to support ourselves. My experience both personally and with my clients is that many women still have a pattern of putting themselves last. I can handle IT – whatever IT is! We pay a price for this choice and it’s not typically a monetary price at first! It’s a quality of life price.

As we discussed the relationship of our physical, mental, emotional, and energetic or spiritual parts of our being with what we were experiencing in our current lives, a pathway began to open up for me. At that time I used to get severe headaches and also was prone to cold sores. As I received reiki treatments that weekend, the emotions that surfaced in my body when hands were placed on my head, neck and shoulders were very surprising. I was storing all my emotions inside believing that I had to be strong to deal the with challenges of being a mom of 3 young boys, working full time which included travel and balancing the responsibilities of a house and marriage.

During the first week of our South African adventure, we were touring the beautiful coastal sites of the Western and Eastern Cape. There is so much to see and do and I give full credit to our tour operators, Scott of Africa, for their expertise in choosing the perfect mix of experiences for our group and one such experience was the opportunity to go out shark cage diving where the great white sharks gather due to a large seal colony island at Gansbaai.

As we took off for our last drive of the trip I called out to our ranger “so what are we setting out to find tonight Mark?” to which he casually replied, “I never plan a game drive, I just head out and watch for life to share the moments that we are meant to see!”.

In January of this year, I received an e-mail that completely changed the course of my life for 2011! How many of you reading this automatically had your thoughts go to a challenge? This was a fabulous opportunity inviting my husband and I to accompany my dad and step mom on a trip to South Africa in May/June. After many conversations between Munro and I, we decided that this could be the trip of a lifetime and let’s go for it! How moments like these can change your life!

Once decisions like this are made, I continue to marvel at the unfolding of the universe bringing forth connections, people and stories that actually have the journey start in sync with that decision.
