Japan – Collaboration & Creativity

Looking through my photos of my trip to Japan allows me to continue to integrate my experience. Today I want to share what is possible when we open up to collaboration from others on a challenge to create something totally unique and special.

The Buddhist Temple of Otagi Nenbutsu-ji
One of the Temples that I visited really touched my heart from this perspective. Otagi Nenbutsu-ji is a Buddhist Temple in the Arashiyama neighbourhood of Kyoto. Originally founded by Empress Shotoku in the middle of the eighth century, it was destroyed once by flooding and once by a civil war. It was moved to its current location in 1922, later suffering typhoon damage in 1950.  It took thirty years to repair the damage but when it was finally restored worshipers celebrated by donating the 1200 rakan sculptures (stone statues representing the disciples of Buddha).

Medicinal Teas – Nature’s Gifts

It wasn’t until my first son was born that I began using tea for its medicinal properties. He had a sensitive tummy and our Yugoslavian caregiver recommended using chamomile tea to soothe the discomfort. He loved it and it worked wonders.

Metamorphosis – Breaking Through Blocks

This year has brought a sense of angst within me. Our family is getting ready to shift to the next stage and I have been unable to make any definite plans with respect to timing. Let me explain. Our youngest returned from 5 years at university in May which means there are now 5 adults living in our modest sized home.

Fall’s Changing Cycles & Women’s Wellness Circles

What an incredible summer we are experiencing! Somehow as we arrive at September, our world still changes cycles. We are in the rich harvest time of our area with Farmers Markets loaded with produce and for those ambitious few who capture summer in a jar; it is a busy time. I love seeing the beautiful colours of summer filling my jars ready to provide nourishment throughout the winter months. On my to-do list are peaches, chili sauce, apple sauce and beets. Yum!

How I Decreased my Tooth Gum Pockets

Last year was a turning point for me with regards to my oral health. I have had receding gums since my 20’s and my gum pockets have continued to deepen over the years. I am so happy to share with you today how I decreased my tooth gum pockets in the last year.

I was at the point of requiring my mouth to be frozen for my oral hygiene appointments. This was not only costly, but required me to spread my cleaning over 2 weeks, one appointment for each side of my mouth. I was then coached to go to a periodontist to have deep root cleaning as it was still impossible to get all the plaque from the deep pockets, where a couple measured 8. Something about that just didn’t feel good to me so I began to investigate options.

Being out of balance is a result of not paying attention to our needs, physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. What is your wake-up call that brings you back to awareness?

Every client that comes to see me for Reiki or Biophoton Light Therapy is out of balance to the point that they are very aware something is not working. A symptom or unwanted feeling has presented itself and they are ready to receive support to identify and heal the situation. This is not new information, however, sometimes taking a new perspective is what helps in the shift.

Collective Consciousness – Fear or Grace?

I received a reflective writing from Caroline Myss in my inbox last week that struck a strong chord with me. The article was inspired by the Orlando massacre however she brought it to the level of the collective consciousness which we can also call the collective unconscious and that had me take a personal look. If we are, at some level, one, then how am I being in my life? Are there places in my life calling for more grace?

Healthy Lifestyle Choices

For those of you following my posts this year, you will have noticed a theme. I embarked this year on expanding my awareness of healthy lifestyle choices that result in feeling more energized, happy and physically strong. This inner pull was motivated by new hormonal shifts taking place in my body that created a feeling of not being in control. I felt exhausted, my digestion was sensitive, I got light heart palpitations at night and my natural exuberance for life was hard to connect to. This menopausal feeling mimicked my early months of pregnancy when I felt exhausted, nauseous and overly sensitive to food and smells. What I knew was – it wasn’t a happy place!

Our world was shaken up in a good way this past long weekend with the arrival of our new puppy Sadie. How one little bundle of love and joy requires an immediate shift in patterns is quite remarkable. We have had 3 dogs over our 30 year marriage though it’s been 1.5 years since we said good-bye to Tess, our lovely Bouvier. I always missed having a four-legged companion but as the family is grown and we have busy lives, it just didn’t seem like the right time. I would often find myself browsing websites of different non-shedding breeds like Bouviers, Portuguese Water dogs and Schnauzers to see what was available. And of course I would often dream about having one.

Step Outside Your Comfort Zone with a Cold Shower for Clarity

We have just gone through a deep freeze here in southern Ontario with a low Sunday of -26C. What a time to step outside of my comfort zone and choose to incorporate cold showers into my morning routine!

It all started last March when I was reminded by a wise naturopathic doctor how healthy it is to finish a hot shower with a few minutes in a cold splash! Finishing a shower with a cold blast is also great for rinsing your hair after washing it. I began to do this regularly for quite some time and then somehow dropped the practice.

My 3 2016 Intention Words

A couple of years ago I shared my own New Year’s tradition with you and it has been a popular topic so I am ready to update it for 2016. You see instead of making resolutions or goals, I take some time to tune into what I am feeling the energy of the New Year is bringing forth in me. The Hidden Health Costs of Beautiful Nails

Butter LONDON advised the Environmental Working Group (EWG) that it removed TPHP from its products last year so make sure you read labels carefully to ensure you have the new formulation. The good news is we have an alternative. No nail polish is completely natural, but the most important thing to look for are brands that are “3-free,” meaning they don’t use toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) or formaldehyde, which are all known carcinogens. The Power of Community

I would really like to highlight an organization I recently connected with called “Touch a Heart Networks”. This organization aligns local people in need with donors who have the choice of what and who they contribute to. It is very personal. These people often fall between the cracks of other organized charities and support functions. It is so heartwarming to see after pictures of new living quarters that have been transformed by donations from the community. To give those who have fallen on hard luck get a boost to pick themselves up and get started.

September Time Expectations – Life Balance

This is one example of a wheel of life however you may put your own spin on naming the sections. Then go ahead and make realistic plans to keep all areas active. We always have periods of time when 1 or 2 sectors require more attention, however it’s important not to neglect an area altogether or it may create stress in our life.

It started in February when I attended a Reiki Masters intensive in Arizona. I returned ready to make a daily commitment to my personal reiki practice. Dream Projects – My Fairy Garden

One day as I was allowing my attention to be taken by the sight, I drifted off into my creative thinking and decided it was time to create a garden around the bird house; a Fairy Garden. This garden was one that would provide texture, scent and colour to attract pollinators, hummingbirds and butterflies. So I contacted my favourite landscape designer to come in, hear my vision and add her experience to the design and plant choices. The colour mock-up was completed last fall and a week ago, the finished garden was born!

Earth Month – Health Benefits of Beeswax Candles

Did you know that beeswax candles clean the air when they burn? Beeswax releases negative ions when it burns. Pollen, dust, dirt, pollutants and any other junk in the air all carry a positive charge, and that is how they can be suspended in the air. The negative ions released from burning beeswax negate the positive charge of the air contaminants, and the neutralized ions are sucked back into the burning candle or fall to the ground.

Fear is not a bad thing; it keeps us aware of potential negative or dangerous situations. However, because they are learned, they become registered in our minds as thoughts. What is the Message from the Red Tailed Hawk?

Amazed to have witnessed this, we expected the hawk to fly off to enjoy its catch. Instead, it circled around us and once again placed itself just ahead of us, hovering over just long enough to show off its prey, then it moved the mouse from its beak to its talons and flew away.

Enneagram Type 6 – Dealing with Anxiety

I was working with a young client recently who shared with me her challenges around anxiety and the thought patterns reminded me of how some of my Enneagram Type 6 friends have shared what they experience. I reached out to ask them what they have found beneficial to quiet the anxious thoughts which lead to the anxious feelings in the body. The Vaccine Question

I personally believe this is part of a much larger issue facing health and well being in our world. The environmental toxins present in today’s lifestyle are taxing our immune systems so that we have less ability to deal with normal childhood illnesses. Right up there with the environmental toxic overload is the typical sugar laden, processed and genetically modified food diets that we live on and provide to our children. I can not forget to add in the bombardment of electro magnetic frequencies from all the wireless technology that permeates our society. After this we can add the stress levels experienced by families working to just keep up with the responsibilities that they carry which depletes them of their “Joy”. It is a challenging picture indeed.

He reminded us that as we are moving into the Age of Aquarius that we are actually raising the vibration of our bodies and shared with us a way to support this process with crystals. The Power of the Circle

Every month we feature a different presenter to share their journey and talents. It is experiential, nurturing and oh so much fun! Every month has first time attendees and those who rarely miss. New friendships are made and new ideas germinated that bring women to something they never thought of before. There is an uplifting that is so valuable in our busy lives. When we participate in the circle, we find our power increase exponentially like a drop of water rippling on the surface of a pond. Reiki in the Kitchen

Not everyone who takes the reiki trainings actually want to do this for a living. Most want to develop their own intuitive healing abilities for themselves and their loved ones. I have definitely had numerous people who already practice another healing modality such as reflexology or massage therapy wish to bring an enhanced level of healing to what they already do. Cultural Creatives are roughly about 35% of adults in all developed countries of the world. In addition to their concern about family and relationships, they are concerned about the environment, social responsibility, personal development and growth, both psychologically and spiritually, over their whole lives. The annual growth rate is about 3% from the 1960’s onward. We had 20% of the American population in 1986, probably 30 million adults and now 35% or 80 million.

Aging – Watching for Patterns

Old people should be wiser and have an overall view of things. It is a shame that many can only see well at a distance when presbyopia prevents them from seeing properly close up. What the body shows the person suffering from presbyopia is that he still has a long way ahead. That he can see very well into the distance. In order to force the person to do this, the body has reduced his capacity to look at things up close; its capacity to see the details.

Vision in Action

My husband and I recently returned from a wonderful trip to Nova Scotia where we visited with friends in Musquodoboit Harbour on the Eastern Shore about 45 minutes from Halifax. While there we toured an incredible garden property called Harbour Breezes where owners Allan and Shane have created a visionary wonderland. I wanted to share this story with you because I was so moved by what I experienced walking these gardens and listening to the story of it’s “becoming”. It truly is a “Vision in Action”.

Life Omnipresent Victoriously Expressed

This is one of the reasons that I fell in love with the Enneagram system as it assists us in understanding our inner selves and others from a level of non-judgement. It provides some of the clues as to why we each have developed our own unique set of patterns of thinking, feeling and acting based on nature and nurture. To this day, I believe that how well we handle our daily interactions and life stresses are based more on how developed our emotional intelligence skills are than anything else. In fact when we are not processing our emotions effectively; it creates the opportunity for energy imbalances to manifest and these show up as dis-ease symptoms in the body. Yes – I believe that every physical symptom in the body first originated at the emotional level.

Let your Self-Expression Flow

It is like a slow-moving river clogged with boulders. The river is your expression, and the boulders are the barriers to your expression. If you had to remove the rocks, it would be very hard to push them out of the channel. You could spend all your time trying to get the rocks out of the channel without getting the river moving. But as soon as the river starts to flow and gains power from the desire to get back to its origin, you will find that you don’t need to do anything to the rocks, because the current takes the rocks with it. You do not need to remove the rocks if you keep the current going at all times.

Time to Take Personal Responsibility

We are incredible beings with such inner resources to interact with the world around us and our bodies do an amazing job of trying to keep up with what we put them through every day. Sometimes though, it just feels like we don’t have enough to get through whatever is going on. Many of us live in an exhausted state, with commitments pulling from every direction and a feeling that there is no time for ourselves. This is not an empowering feeling and the body will find a way to let us know that we are not in balance! Whether we experience headaches, tension aches, digestive issues, insomnia, high blood pressure, anxiety; the list is endless; it is the bodies messaging system at work.

The Energy Influence of Electro Magnetic Frequencies (EMF)

My husband continued for a number of years with the support of acupuncture. Between managing his exposure to EMF’s and strengthening his system with the acupuncture we could keep any outbreaks to a minimum. It was not until I was introduced and trained in the use of the Chiren, a Biophoton Light instrument that we have almost eliminated the symptoms all together. We discovered that due to his profession, he was exposed to heavy metals frequently and they were built up in his body. This acted like a conductor for the EMF waves and made it more difficult for him to not actually attract them to his system. Currently, we have made a number of changes in our home and habits, he continues to avoid microwaved foods and manages his exposure time to heavy EMF areas and things are better than ever. What Energy Does 2013 Hold for You?

So there was part of me that didn’t want to let go of 2012, I really enjoyed the unfolding of the year and so I delayed my first blog of the New Year to now. Last week after our son returned to Calgary for his next semester at University, I finally accepted that it was time to move forward into this new beginning. She asked each of us to turn to the chorus members standing around us and tell them how Awesome they were. Well – that was effortless, it came with complete sincerity and lots of energy. Once we calmed down she said, ok, now turn to the chorus members around you and tell them how Awesome you are! Oh my goodness – that was a whole different ball game.

The Power of Gratitude

So the question I asked myself was, if this feeling of gratitude has such a positive influence for both myself and others that I send it out to, how can I incorporate more acts of gratitude into my day? I got all excited as the creative thoughts started to pop into my awareness and I grabbed a piece of paper and started jotting the ideas down. What I am saying is it was not a difficult task to take on, and even the experience of creating the list brought my “feeling good” quotient right up.

The Intelligence of the Heart

I am sure most of us are aware how much we reside in our heads as we embark on our day. The more I bring a conscious effort to bring my whole self into my awareness for more of my day, I realize how much I live in my head. I am getting good at bringing awareness to what I am feeling about what is happening and then I transfer it all back up to my head to try and figure out what to do with or about it! In the words of one of our Olympians it takes: “Practice, Practice, and more Practice!” After all – that’s how we got to where we are by practicing having our consciousness in our head. I may be making this all sound like effort which is the which is the last thing we need to add into our lives but really – my current experience is revealing that when I settle into my heart – my experience of life seems to be simplified, to become more clear and definitely become more peaceful.

Connecting to the Communication of Our Body, Emotions & Inner Voice

Sometimes when we finally listen to our bodies cries for attention, we don’t know what to do next. That’s where I have been building my skill set. I added Biophoton light resonance therapy to my practice in March of this year after experiencing first hand the huge benefits of tuning into my body through the chiren instrument. By investigating the meridian points on your fingers and toes, imbalances are revealed where a disturbance or incoherent light occurs. The measurements are visible on the instrument and audible so it is a clear and precise way of locating disturbances. The interesting thing I have found while treating clients is that when we locate an imbalance and discuss the possible reasons for it – the answers become quite clear. It’s like putting together the pieces of a puzzle by going back to when symptoms started, what was going on at that time in the person’s life and the key part – how did the client feel at that time?

For me – the circle is magical. A circle is a sacred geometrical shape found in nature and used throughout our history as a symbol of oneness, of wholeness and of the connection of all things. So – when we gather in circle each month – we feel connected yet our individuality is honoured. We create a sacred space to allow for learning from our presenters and from each other. In our busy life style – circle provides an opportunity to take precious time out for ourselves, leaving behind our “to do” list for a few hours and just allowing space “to be”.

10 Self Care Strategies

How do we balance the effects of stress? That’s been the focus of a majority of my clients lately so I felt it time to share some thoughts on this incredibly important subject. You see, most of us have grown up with the idea that Self Care is Selfish! We were taught to always look after others first however in any emergency situation, we are taught the opposite. When you travel by air, the safety instructions in the event that oxygen masks are needed is to put yours on first and then you can be sure you are able to assist others! So – it’s time to revisit the importance of self care and create a new plan of action so that we keep our energy fuel tank at a healthy operating level. Sweet Adelines – Singing to Communicate and For My Health

It was the harmony that hooked me, however, there have been innumerable benefits to this wonderful hobby. The friendships, continuous learning of vocal production, stage performance, choreography and travel top the list. AND – there is a huge health benefit to singing as it increases your happy hormones and opens up the throat chakra. Who Are Your Mentors?

I remember being asked once on a leadership course to write down 5 people in my life who have been positive influences and explain why. This was a great exercise as I could acknowledge the values and skills that I admired in them and wanted to expand into my life. As time has passed, some of these mentors have stayed in my life, some have fulfilled their influence and I have added new ones. It is said that all leaders seek out mentors in their lives. They become part of the foundation of our character and bring out more of our true light! We all play this role to someone whether we know it or not.

Biophoton Therapy

For the past 12 years, I have incorporated the wisdom of the Enneagram personality system as well as the healing energy work of Reiki. They compliment each other perfectly and to be honest, though I am open to many other modalities, I did not feel the need to add anything else to my practice. Then in 2011, upon return from a phenomenal trip to South Africa – something new entered my field of awareness. My stepmom became very ill immediately after arriving home from our trip and after a trip to the doctor’s office to have blood work done – a friend recommended that she see a biontologist in her area. By this point she had been extremely ill for a week and my father was quite concerned. So they decided to go and she felt immediate relief from the illness.

Spring – an Opportunity to Create Change

I don’t know about you, however just when I think that I have my life figured out and relatively lined up, a day comes along that changes everything. It has been a few weeks since I have posted a blog because one of those days happened. I lost my father on March 6th, 2 weeks after going into the hospital to check out why he was experiencing discomfort in his chest. Now that’s a big change in my life and one that I will take time to integrate fully. I have an amazing family and support network with caring friends and that absolutely makes this easier to move forward with. I also know that my dad is an integral part of who I am so he lives on in me, and in the people he touched and that is the precious eternal part of our circle of life.
